The upcoming King of the Beach volleyball tournament set this Feb. 22nd and 23rd at PSC’s beach volleyball courts in Fort San Pedro will serve as a special qualifier for the coming Philippine National Games (PNG) in Manila.

This was bared yesterday by Philippine Sports Commission’s (PSC) designated beach volleyball consultant Eric Lecain, who met with City Sports Commission (CCSC) chairman Edward Hayco at the Cebu City Sports Center.

Aside from the PNG slots, the tournament also dangles cash prizes to the winners.

“According to Ed Hayco, this will be our special qualifier to go to Manila,” Lecain said. “The winners will win a trip to the Philippine National Games. There’re will also be cash prizes similar to the 2014 2nd Sinulog King of the Beach.”

The 2014 2nd Sinulog King of the Beach volleyball held last month attracted a variety of participants coming from different parts of Cebu, including several school varsity players.

The good turnout of participants in the Sinulog tournament was what prompted Lecain to set another tournament, which according to him, will have an added attraction of some good sound systems in the hopes of attracting more spectators.

The Sinulog tournament, which was organized by the CCSC and supported by the PSC, the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Cebu City Local Government Unit, was ruled for the second time by RP team member and ex-University of San Jose Recoletos Jaguars spiker Jonrey Sasing.

The champion in the upcoming tournament will receive P4,000 cash, while the 2nd and 3rd placers will take home P2,000 and P1,000 cash, respectively. The 4th placer will get P500, the 5th placer P300, the 6th placer P250, the 7th placer P200 and the 8th placer P150.
