Wharton senior fellow raises funds for Cebu NGO

Dr. Brian To, global strategist and senior fellow of The Wharton School-University of Pennsylvania, will be in Cebu today (May 25) to give a one-day lecture under the Strategic Leadership and Management Program (SLAMP) at the Marco Polo Plaza Cebu.
“This program was designed for executives, managers, entrepreneurs and those who want to move up in their careers,” said To, who considers Cebu’s entrepreneurial culture as a main factor in attracting investments.
To is management adviser and coach to Fortune 500 corporations, governments, militaries and distingished family-owned enterprises in Asia, North America and Europe.
To said the program provides a practical approach on leadership and management as it blends theory and practice by focusing on communication skills and personal branding.
To is a supporter of SimplyShare Foundation Inc. (SSF), a Cebu-based non-government organization primarily devoted to fight hunger and undernutrition in the most vulnerable populations in the Philippines.
All proceeds of the SLAMP event will go to the foundation.
To also helped raise funds for the implementation of SSF’s various projects including the acquisition of food trucks to feed more hungry and undernourished children in the Philippines.
Launched in 2015, SSF intends to form a Food Bank Council of Cebu and eventually expand its services to other vulnerable populations in the Philippines through local and international linkages.
SSF Executive Director Pamela Baricuatro said there are 15 million undernourished children in the Philippines based on a study released by Freedom from Hunger (FAO).
“Our advocacy for hunger eradication is anchored on a strong belief that food security is a precursory need towards a better quality of life,” she said.

Baricuatro said poverty and social deprivation are the most prominent causes of hunger.
“Undernourishment in children has a profound effect on their overall development and ultimately the chance to succeed in adult life,” she said.
Currently, SSF serves more than 2,000 undernourished children from Napo Elementary School (Barangay Sapangdaku, Cebu City), Punta Princesa Elementary School (Barangay Punta Princesa, Cebu City), Pinamungahan Elementary School-Special Education class and Barangay Baring Day Care Center in Carmen town.
