Bright girls

It’s morphing time.

To slip the Maka Girls—Rae, KC, Jen —into colorful frocks is like shedding off their old skin.

Often seen on stage, especially when the group performed as finalists on “Pilipinas Got Talent” on ABS-CBN, the singing trio is known for dark, vixen wardrobe.

But we think they are charismatic enough to stand as muses for our celebrated fashion designers: Harley Ruedas, Peewee Senining, and Mel Maria.

The king of glamour, Ruedas created a sleek silhouette and balanced it with oversized bell sleeves.

Senining wanted the sexy cool kind of diva. Couture master Mel Maria went for floral embroideries, saying: “Expect something different every time as I am constantly trying to reinvent and innovate my designs.”

To begin with, Cebu does not have the kind of genre these girls own, a peculiarity that has led to their rise.

The name, for example, is already a power key: The drive, the command, the possibility.

Springing from an individual music style, the unity of their voice power is the soul.

The band has magnified our energy for more “hugot” songs.

Let’s talk about the breakthrough.

“Gugmang Maka” sits in the middle of the cultural flow of the Cebuanos, either by our love for, well, love or the intonation of our language used in conversations.

It is a powerful song.

It is the mother of the future: an upcoming Cebuano song and a concert that marks the first anniversary.

To us, the broken-hearted sitting pretty elsewhere, Maka Girls is the beacon of hope, too. Just so you wait.
