France claims first finals ticket

France advanced to the finals of the 2018 FIFA World Cup with a 1-0 edging of Belgium early Wednesday, Philippine time.

French defender Samuel Umtiti was named Man of the Match after scoring in the 51st minute.

And, just like Raphael Varane’s opener in their quarterfinal match against Uruguay, it was Antoine Griezmann who set it up, this time taking the corner kick which Umtiti flicked in with his head.

This is the third finals appearance for the Les Bleus. The first was in 1998, where they went on to win the World Cup title for the first time. The second was in 2006.
