Sarah Geronimo’s ‘Miss Granny’ gets August 22 playdate

FANS of Sarah Geronimo have something to look forward to next month.

Viva Films has announced that “Miss Granny” which is topbilled by the Popstar Royalty will be shown in Philippine cinemas starting August 22.

The announcement was made through Viva Entertainment Inc.’s YouTube channel after the official trailer was released on Friday evening.

The trailer begins with Geronimo going out of a photo studio, Forever Young Portrait Studio.

She takes a bus ride and tells one of the passengers, “Excuse me, paupuin mo naman ang matanda.”

The passenger shots back, “Matanda lang suot mo, matanda na agad?”

Geronimo slaps the passenger’s forehead and grabs his sunglasses.

She is surprised when she sees her reflection on the glasses as she discovers that she has become 50 years younger.

Geronimo plays the younger version of the character of Nova Villa.

Villa leaves her family’s house as she feels that she has become a burden to them.

She walks away and finds Forever Young Portrait Studio where the photographer tells her that he could make her look like Audrey Hepburn.

After the photoshoot, Villa regains her youthful appearance and becomes Geronimo.

The trailer also shows the character of James Reid, a guitarist who joins a local band with Geronimo. He is unaware that Geronomo is actually his grandmother.

Reid’s parents in the film are portrayed by Lotlot de Leon and Nonie Buencamino.

One day, the character of Xian Lim discovers the band and assures them of stardom.

Directed by Joyce Bernal, it is an adaptation of a South Korean comedy-drama movie of the same title which starred Na Moon-hee and Shim Eun-Kyung.

Viva Films announced last year that they were doing a remake.
