More stories and nominations, please

By: Madrileña de la Cerna August 18,2018 - 09:06 PM

We need more stories for the 100 Stories and more nominations for the Tatak UP Award 2018 to conclude the Centennial Year Celebration of the University of the Philippines Cebu.

To recall, the project 100 Stories was launched in March this year two months before the Centennial of UP Cebu on May 3. Deadline was set end of July but since alumni and former and still active faculty have been busy, it has been moved to end of September. Hopefully, these stories will be printed and distributed during the awarding ceremony of Tatak UP Award 2018.

So far I started the ball rolling with the history of UP Cebu, then my CDN columns on the UPCC Mixed Chorus and its director-trainer, the late Professor-Ambassador Victoriano Lecaros, and the memories of Class ’39. I also have the comprehensive write-up of former dean, Dr. Jesus Juario on his experiences as an administrator and as a Biology professor while Dr. Primitivo Ereno and Prof. Fe Reyes also wrote about their experiences as faculty-administrators. Meantime, I am awaiting the stories on the Political Science division and the Data Links by Prof. Feliza Etemadi, the Central Visayas Studies Center by Prof. Belinda Espiritu, the HRM program by Prof. Teresita Rodriquez.

There are still voluminous topics to write about UP Cebu during its 100 years. This is a call, an invitation, and a challenge to write your memories of UP Cebu at a particular period. Most welcome would be the classes or program you were in, the organization you were so involved in, the activity or activities that made an impact on the college campus. Recommended length of the story is minimum of 500 words. You can email your stories to [email protected] or [email protected] or submit to Prof. Madrileña de la Cerna c/o College of Social Sciences, AS Building, UP Cebu. Deadline is end of September 2018.
