The image of the Santo Niño de Cebu was brought to St. Augustine Parish in Barangay Sta. Rosa, Olango Island, Lapu-Lapu City on Sunday (August 19).
Fr. Jun Nohara, rector of the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño, revealed that this is the first time that the image was brought to the island.
At least 50 pump boats joined the fluvial activity which started from the Hilton Wharf in Barangay Punta Engaño, Lapu-Lapu City. Police authorities have estimated around 100,000 people who participated the activity from start to finish.
“Residents of Olango are very blessed and privileged to have been given the chance to pray and kiss the image,” Nohara said.
“We hope that this would become an annual activity,” Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza said.
The Santo Niño image will remain in Olango for three days from August 19 to 21.
It was the parish priest, Fr. Melton Medida, who requested him to bring the image in Olango Island.
The St. Augustine Parish will start their novena for their upcoming fiesta celebration on August 28 to 30.
