FINISHING fourth after the elimination round, the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) boys’ volleyball squad now finds itself in a good position to make it to the championship round of the Cesafi high school volleyball competition.

This after the Baby Jaguars logged their second straight victory in the semifinal round following a 27-25, 25-23 win over the second-ranked Southwestern University (SWU)-PHINMA Baby Cobras on Sunday at the Cebu City Sports Institute in Barangay San Nicolas, Cebu City.

The Baby Jaguars now have a 2-0 (win-loss) card in the single round-robin semis and will face the defending champion University of San Carlos (USC) in the last semifinal playdate next weekend.

The third-ranked USC dropped to 1-1 in the semis after losing to the top-ranked University of the Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Baby Panthers, 18-28, 25-15, 17-25, also on Sunday.

The win was a huge one for the Baby Panthers, who lost to USJ-R in the first day of the semis on Saturday.

The Baby Cobras, meanwhile, dropped to 0-2 and will face USPF in their last game in the semis.

In collegiate action, USJ-R’s women’s team emerged victorious against defending champ SWU-Phinma, 25-11, 25-12, 25-17, at the USPF Gym.

In another women’s game, USPF beat the Cebu Doctors’ University (CDU), 25-12, 25-10, 25-11.

In the men’s division, defending champion SWU-PHINMA defeated USPF, 22-25, 25-17, 25-22, 26-24, while USJ-R swept CDU, 25-12, 25-13, 25-5.
