Cebu has enough power supply and may no longer experience daily rotational brownouts.
But energy officials urged people to conserve electricity to avoid power interruptions during summer.
Department of Energy Regional Director Antonio Labios said they presently have standby power supply. However, he said it may not be sufficient if the demand increases.
In a report to Gov. Hilario Davide III, Labios said the Visayas power grid has been fully restored last Dec. 23.
Distribution utilities were already reconnected to the grid although some households in Camotes and Bantayan islands have yet to be re-energized.
“We already have the power supply. The only problem is its distribution to some household which were destroyed due to the super typhoon,” Labios said.
Ma. Theresa Sederiosa, communications manager of the Visayan Electric Company (Veco), said the power demand is expected to increase during summer since several people will use their air conditioning units and electric fans.
“We’re running a campaign on energy conservation and whatever we can do to lower demand. Let’s not use electricity when not needed,” she said.
“With the current suply, we’re okay. But we will run into problems once there are power plants that will undergo maintenance. That’s what we’re really afraid of,” she added.
Davide was elated with the report on the current power situation in Cebu.
