Two men were killed in separate road accidents in Lapu-Lapu City last Saturday.

Police identified the fatalities as Dioscoro Ibale, a resident of barangay Tayud, Consolacion town, and Benjie Amante, a resident of barangay Marigondon, Lapu-Lapu City.

The first accident happened at the Marcelo Fernan Bridge past 2 p.m.

Police said Ibale was driving a motorcycle when he was sideswiped by a trailer truck driven by Charlie Habonita, a 34-year-old resident of barangay Quiot Pardo, Cebu City.

Ibale  fell on the road and was run over by the trailer truck. Habonita continued driving but a concerned citizen reported the incident to the police, who arrested him in barangay Basak.

Habonita said he didn’t notice that he hit someone and learned about the accident when he was apprehended by the police.

The second accident happened in barangay Agus at 9:30 p.m.

Police said Amante lost control of the motorcycle he was driving after he hit an uneven section of the road.

Amante was thrown to the opposite lane  where he was run over by a passenger Multicab driven by Ben Aying Jr., 55, a resident of barangay Maribago.

Paramedics from the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation brought Amante to the Lapu-Lapu City Hospital where he was declared dead.
