Cebu strike paralyzes 30 percent of public transport
At least 30 percent of the total public transportation was paralyzed when they joined the nationwide transport strike.
Organized jeepney drivers plying the routes of Mandaue, Banawa, Lahug, Talamban, Urgello, Pardo, Banawa in Cebu City and a few in Lapu-Lapu City marched from Fuente Osmena to Land Transportation Office-Central Visayas (LTO-7) to denounce a proposed fare hike and higher penalties for colorum vehicles.
Cebu City jeepney drivers have more reasons to rally and ask LTO to confiscate their driver’s licenses confiscated due to compounded traffic violations.
Because of the few jeepneys plying their regular routes, Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama declared suspension of classes for public elementary and high schools. Night high school was also suspended.
Work at the Cebu Provincial Capitol is also suspended after 3 p.m. today.
Around two buses and trucks arrived at the Capitol were deployed to transport employees to terminals.
