TYPHOON “Tomas” (international name: “Man-yi”) has left the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) but may re-enter within the next 12 to 24 hours, the state weather bureau said yesterday.

As of 10 a.m., “Tomas” was located outside of PAR at 1,445 kilometers east of Aparri, Cagayan, moving northeast at 15 kilometers per hour (kph).

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its latest severe weather bulletin that the typhoon is not expected to make landfall and has no “direct effect” in the country. The typhoon has maximum sustained winds of up to 145 kph an gusts of up to 180 kph.

Pagasa, however, warned that sea voyages may be risky in the northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon and eastern seaboard of Visayas due to the surge of the northeast monsoon.
