CEBU CITY, Philippines — The local party of arrested San Francisco, Camotes officials said they are being targeted because they support the candidacy of Vice Governor Agnes Magpale and Governor Hilario Davide III.

“It is what it is. Party stalwarts are being targeted because they are supporting the Magpale-Davide tandem,” said Barug Alang sa Kauswagan ug Demokrasya (Bakud) Party chairman Joseph “Ace” Durano in a statement posted on their Facebook page.

Durano said the party lawyers are assisting Mayor Aly Arquillano and Vice Mayor Al Arquillano “to ensure their rights to due process are respected.”

“Our lawyers are doing the necessary documentation to address the charges,” added Durano.

He said the action is politically motivated to “try and create a handicap on the support” that the Fifth District is giving the candidacy of incumbent Vice Governor Agnes Magpale and Governor Hilario Davide III, who are running as governor and vice governor of Cebu Province.

Durano said this will not discouraged them from putting up a good fight.

“This unfortunate incident will not prevent or diminish the support of our allies. It will further strengthen and solidify our alliances,” he said. / celr
