Cebu City, Philippines —Award-winning Cebuano actor Dan Sy Lopez headlines a Lenten drama show titled, “Balaanong Misyon sa Gugma ug Kaluoy” which will be aired on the Cebu Catholic Television Network (CCTN).

Lopez told Cebu Daily News Digital that the series is based on the life story of Nholy Dimpas.

“It is my first time to play a true to life character and it is kinda hard because you always have this constant anxiety if you could pull it off or not,” he said.

The story centers Nholy, who does not know God. One day, he found a medallion from the sea with an image of Jesus Christ.

He keeps the medallion and encounters a miracle in his life.

Nholy also experiences heartbreak from men and he decides to give his life to God and serve him.

“Prior to shooting, I went and talked to him to gain insight on his personality and his mannerisms. I also practiced a lot before going in front of the camera. Even though his story is totally different from my life, there is one thing that we have in common, we are both God-fearing,” the 26-year-old actor said.

Lopez assures Cebuanos that they will learn about not giving up despite whatever struggles in life.

“Dili ta mo surrender kay naa ta’y dakong Ginoo na naka surround nato,” he added.

(We should not give up. We have a God who is always there for us.)

“Balaanong Misyon sa Gugma ug Kaluoy” is aired on April 17 (9 p.m. to 10 p.m.), April 18 (11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.), and April 20 (6 a.m. to 7 a.m.)

The series is directed by Tess Diez.

Completing the cast in this Lenten drama are Veronica Solis, Boy Patalinhug, James Robert, Bran Lloyd Caballes, and Mia Gempeso.

This is not the first time Lopez top-billed a project at CCTN.

His major projects in the network were “Krus Ni Lorena” (2016) and “Kanta Drama presents The Journey” (2017).

In 2018, Lopez won Best Actor in the

4th Sinegugma Cebuano Film Festival for portraying Gardo, a farmer in the short film, “Bahandi.” /bmjo
