Barangay tanod Allan Naquines holds the bolo used by Romilo Tampus in attacking the two nuns inside the monastery of the Franciscan Sisters in Sacsac, Consolacion.

THE 26-year-old man who hacked and wounded two nuns in barangay Sacsac, Consolacion town, Cebu will face trial in court.

The Cebu Provincial Prosecutors’ Office has found sufficient basis to elevate to the Regional Trial Court the charges of attempted murder and frustrated murder against Romilo Tampus.
Bail was set at a total of P320,000.

Tampus, who is reportedly suffering from a mental illness, broke into a monastery and hacked Srs. Anabelle Macas and Fe Cañete last Saturday.

Macas sustained hack wounds on the neck, head and in other parts of her body while Cañete was hit in the back.

The two survived the attack which happened shortly after the nuns had finished their morning prayers.

When presented before Assistant Provincial Prosecutor Al Rey Ouano, Tampus chose not to undergo preliminary investigation which could have given him a chance to submit a counter-affidavit and refute the allegations.

This being so, Ouano recommended the filing of charges against the accused in court.
Tampus’ father Camilo said his son is mentally deranged and they were supposed to bring him to a mental health institution.

Tampus had accused the nuns of tying him up but Camilo said it was their family who restrained the accused with rope while they were preparing to take him to a mental institution.
