Cebuana wins silver medal in Singapore triathlon tilt
THIRTEEN-YEAR-OLD Cebuana junior triathlete Aaliyah Ricci Mataragnon won the silver medal in the 14-15 years-old division in Sunday’s Metasprint Triathlon Series in Singapore.
Mataragnon, who recently topped the National Age Group Triathlon (NAGT) series in Danao City last March 6, arrived in Singapore with a fever but her determination to win did not let her down.
She finished the 400-meter swim, 20-kilometer bike and 2.5k run with a time of 41 minutes and five seconds.
Aaliyah finished the last year’s race with a bronze medal.
Claiming the first spot was Malaysian Youth Olympic Games representative Zoe Natasha Bowden, who finished in 38 minutes and one second. Another Malaysian, Ayanee Kunaseeian, placed third with a time of 41 minutes and 20 seconds.
Aaliyah is trained by multi-titled triathlete John Philip Dueñas, Tito Jabonilla and Ronald Manlosa. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
