Portion of Panganiban Street to be closed off for CCMC complex
A PORTION of Panganiban St. leading to the old Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) will be closed off to give way to the construction of the new complex which will house the new city hospital.
Cebu City Councilor Mary Ann delos Santos, who chairs the CCMC ad hoc committee, said the road realignment will start after the Holy Week.
She said this will pave the way for phase one of the construction of the new CCMC building which will be integrated with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and the Cebu City Traffic Operations Management (Citom) in a complex.
There is no exact time frame for the road realignment, but delos Santos said they’re confident that they are still on track since the demolition of the old CCMC building was finished ahead of schedule.
“The project will be done at no cost to the city since it will be done by the Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW),” delos Santos said.
The DEPW started the demolition last Feb. 24 and completed it last Apr. 2.
DEPW personnel also recovered P13 million worth of items from the old CCMC building during their demolition work.
In a report to Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama, delos Santos said P8 million worth of items like generator sets, electrical wires, breakers and automatic transfer switches were retrieved and are now under the custody of CCMC management.
About P4 million worth of items like medical equipment, furniture and computer units were also recovered and placed under custody of the General Services Office.
Delos Santos said P1 million worth of items including fire extinguishers, plastic chairs, cabinets, tiles and jalousie blades were retrieved and handed over to the DEPW.
The DEPW also dumped 3,960 cubic meters of rubble on the road leading to the Tent City at the South Road Properties and at Pond A.
