CEBU CITY, Philippines – Cebu City on Sunday, August 2, 2020, logged another low in the number of new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases.

The latest COVID-19 bulletin from the Department of Health in Central Visayas (DOH – 7) showed that the region recorded 92 additional cases of COVID-19.

Of this number, 22 were from Cebu City, and 27 from Cebu province. Lapu-Lapu City also reported from 22 new coronavirus patients while seven for Mandaue City.

This development brings the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Cebu City to 9,075 as of August 2, with 5, 609 recoveries, and 520 mortalities.

The city, tagged as the epicenter of the outbreak in Central Visayas, recorded no additional mortalities related to the infection on August 2.

However, DOH -7 noted that not all COVID-19 deaths occurred on the same day they were reported.

The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Disease (IATF-MEID) placed Cebu City under general community quarantine (GCQ) starting August 1. It is expected to last until August 15.

The regional health office said a total of 1,109 swab samples from Central Visayas were processed on Sunday.

All provinces in the region have documented confirmed cases of COVID-19.

Siquijor lost its title as the only island-province in Central Visayas free from coronavirus when, on August 1, its provincial government found out two Locally Stranded Individuals (LSIs) from Metro Manila have been infected with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. /bmjo
