In-person classes will resume in selected schools in areas with low COVID-19 cases in January.

President Rodrigo Duterte and the Cabinet approved on Monday night the Department of Education’s proposal to conduct a dry run on in-person classes in select schools in low COVID-risk areas.

The pilot implementation of the limited in-person classes will run for the whole of January 2021, presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said in a statement.

Participation in in-person classes will be voluntary, and students will need their parents’ permission before they are allowed to join, Roque said.

The DepEd will work with the National Task Force on COVID for the pilot project, he said.

Health protocols, must be strictly observed, he added.

“The pilot shall be done under strict health and safety measures,” he said.
