Comelec sets July 20 as PWD registration day
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) scheduled next Sunday, July 20, as a special election registration day for Persons with Disabilities (PWD) nationwide.
Disability week
Cebu provincial election officer Ferdinand Guijilde said Comelec resolution No. 14-043 dated June 25 this year set the date in line with the celebration of National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week from July 17 to 23.
Election officers all over the country are instructed to assign accessible registration venues for the PWDs within their jurisdiction.
Barangay officials are also encouraged to provide transportation for the PWDs.
But Guijilde said the province didn’t undertake preparations since the resolution was addressed to cities and towns in Cebu.
He said they were already aware of the announcement.
He said PWDs may still opt to register on other regular days.
Guijilde said the Comelec provincial offices maintain the preferential options in registration forms of PWDs, allowing them to choose the kind of assistance they prefer to be extended to them.
Rep. Luigi Quisumbing of Cebu’s 6th district also called for the passage of his two bills providing for a system of early voting for senior citizens and PWDs that remain pending at the House Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reforms.
