Labella well, not in the hospital – Casas
CEBU CITY, Philippines — Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella is well and is not confined in a hospital.
This was the assurance that City Administrator Floro Casas Jr. gave to correct “rumors” that the mayor remains unwell and was admitted to a hospital in Lapu-Lapu City last January 29.
“Nagstorya mi last night and okay raman siya. Wala ra siya nahospital,” said Casas in a phone interview with CDN Digital on Saturday, January 30.
(I spoke with him last night and he is okay. He was not admitted to a hospital.)
Casas said that Labella will continue to work from his home in Barangay Bacayan until next week and while he recuperates from his ear infection.

Rumors have been circulating online that Labella was hospitalized for the treatment of an illness that is far more serious than an ear infection.
This may have promoted Cebuano Doctor Rowena Burden to challenge the administration to publicly reveal the mayor’s true state of health, in a post on her Facebook page in the afternoon of January 27.
“In the interest of public health, CAN THE CEBU CITY LEADERSHIP STATE, ONCE AND FOR ALL, WHETHER MAYOR EDGAR LABELLA HAS ANY SERIOUS DISEASES THAT WILL IMPACT ON HIS PHYSICAL AND COGNITIVE ABILITIES LIKE PARKINSON’S DISEASE AND CANCER??? Mayor EdLab, the Cebu City residents want to be assured of your 100% capability to handle not only our increasing cases but also any vaccine rollout. IT IS IMPERATIVE FOR ALL OF US TO KNOW. You are our public servant and you are answerable to all of us. #Ubuntu #accountability #WeThePeople ,” Burden’s post reads.
Labella is yet to issue a statement on Burden’s dare, but Casas gave the assurance that the mayor was well.
It was still on January 27 when Labella made his last public appearance. He said during a virtual press conference which he had from his residence in Barangay Bacayan that he was advised by his doctors to avoid public exposure while he recuperates from his ear infection.
Labella also admitted then that his ear infection may have affected other organs in his body but he gave the assurance that the “worst is over.”
The need to undergo medical consultation for his ear infection was also the reason which Labella gave for his absence during the official launch of the Sinulog Virtual Rewind 2021 on January 17 and for going on a four-day leave from January 19 to 22, 2021 to undergo a medical procedure. / dcb
