Barangays tapped to help keep Cebu City bike lanes clear
CEBU CITY, Philippines — The Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) is asking the barangays for help in monitoring bike lanes around the city, and make sure these are free from obstruction.
This as reports continue to surface about motorists parking their vehicles in these designated lanes, causing inconvenience to bikers who have to avoid these parked vehicles.
Mayor Edgardo Labella has expressed support to the plan of the Sugbo Bike Lanes Board (SBLB) to tap barangays in monitoring the bike lanes and ensure these remain unobstructed.

“So far, 10 out of 27 barangays na ang miuyon nga atong palihukon ang mga tanod to help ensure bike lane safety and compliance. Andam sila moserbisyo as an auxiliary task force to augment the CCTO in enforcing these rules,” said Labella.

The mayor already warned the motorists who will not respect the bike lanes to expect their vehicles clamped or cited for the violation.
As of now, the SBLB continues to talk with the other barangays that have been included in the bike loop, mostly in the downtown and uptown areas of the city.
The board hopes that aside from barangays, residents will also help keep these designated lanes free from obstruction.
“Hinaot nga kita usab isip mga Sugbuanon, kay magmatngon sa maong dalan ug magtinabangay aron mahimo kining luwas sa mga commuter nga buot mag-bike sa siyudad,” said the mayor.
(We hope that Cebuanos will be vigilant on the streets and help each other make the streets safe for commuters and bikers in the city.)
