CEBU CITY, Philippines — Jonard Labadan and Rosendo Yamyamin emerged victorious in their respective campaigns during last Sunday’s (March 21) resumption of the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (Cepca) weekly online chess tournament.

Labadan topped the Prexy Jerry Blitz Arena while Yamyamin captured the top spot in the all-Cepcans arena.

Labadan finished with 24 points after playing 13 games with a 62% winning percentage. He bested Filemon Kapuno III, an architect who settled for second place with 23 points. Rounding off the top three was Jinky Catulay, while the fourth to fifth placers were Sheila Khan Sepanton and Engineer Eladio Lim III, respectively.

In the all-Cepcans arena, Yamyamin played 19 games with a winning rate of 79% to score 46 points. The ex-chess varsity player from the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) outlasted National Master (NM) Jasper Rom, who finished second with 44 points, while Antonio Cabibil grabbed the third spot. Michael Tinga, Vic Glysen Derotas, and Jimmy Ty claimed the fourth to sixth places, respectively.

The weekly online chess tournament is exclusive to Cepca members and wood pushers they wish to invite.

The tournament uses the Lichess.org platform using blitz format with an arena style of play.

The above-mentioned wood pushers received cash prizes courtesy of Cepca president Engr. Jerry Maratas and Jan’s Grill. /rcg
