CEBU CITY, Philippines — The public are encouraged to continue reporting anti-illegal drug activities in their areas through the “Isumbong Mo Kay Wilkins” in Facebook, which is the social media platform of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Central Visayas (PDEA-7).
Leia Albiar, PDEA-7 spokesperson, made the call after two successful anti-illegal drug operations in two days in Cebu and Bohol led to the confiscation of an estimated P68,000 worth of suspected shabu and the arrest of two drug suspects.
Albiar was referring to the Bohol operation at past noon of June 6, where Pablito Dolotina, 53, in Barangay Poblacion, Bilar town in Bohol Province was caught with 25 grams of suspected shabu with an estimated worth of P34,000.
She was also referring to the buy-bust operation in Barangay Punta Princesa in Cebu City on June 5 where Kylle Basubas, 22, a tailor who allegedly moonlights as a drug peddler and drug den maintainer, was caught with an estimated P34,000 worth of suspected shabu.
Albiar said that this two successful operations were made possible because of tips from netizens or concerned citizens, who reported these persons’ illegal activities through the “Isumbong Mo Kay Wilkins” (IMKW) FB page.
The IMKW was launched last June 2020 and was an initiative of PDEA Director General Wilkins Villanueva. This platform allows the public to report to PDEA any illegal drug activities they noticed from their areas.
Albiar also said that aside from the IMKW, their visibility of the campaign materials posted in the police stations and government halls such as in Barrio Luz, Barangay Ermita, and Pasil, and in front of the Cebu City Mayor’s office have helped them widen their reach since they had received lots of reports from the community.
She, however, clarified that it would take time for them to respond to these reports because they also had limited manpower.
