CEBU CITY, Philippines — The municipal council of San Fernando has passed a resolution on Monday afternoon, June 21, 2021, urging business establishments operating in the town to give promos or discounts to individuals who were already inoculated with the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine.

The resolution was sponsored by Councilor Philip Jude Medalla, chairman of the Committee on Health.

Medalla said that he would be coordinating with the San Fernando Chamber of Commerce and Industry in giving incentives to those who were already vaccinated against the COVID-19.

The councilor is hoping that the initiative, will encourage more people to participate in the vaccination drive.

Medalla considers vaccination as a critical solution in ending the COVID-19 pandemic.

“WHEREAS, we recognize the vital role of the private sector in incentivizing individuals who have been vaccinated to encourage the public to participate in the COVID-19 vaccination program,” the resolution reads.

Currently, Medalla said that more than 2,000 individuals in San Fernando were already vaccinated since the vaccination roll-out started in the town.

He admitted that several residents in the town were not yet convinced on the importance of the vaccine, that’s why they intensified their information drive campaign.

Medalla is also encouraging the residents of San Fernando to register online through the San Fernando Rural Health Unit official Facebook account so that they can be master-listed and be included in the vaccination.

As of July 21, 2021, the town has recorded 3 new cases of the COVID-19, with 9 active cases and 11 deaths.
