Mandaue City Treasurer Regal Oliva has announced that City Hall will raise real property and business taxes before the end of the year.

Oliva made the announcement last Thursday in a news conference.

He said the city needs to raise its taxes after a review showed that Mandaue City has the lowest tax rate among highly urbanized cities in the country.

Oliva said Mandaue City’s tax rate is lower than Cebu’s towns.

Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes however, assured businessmen that they will be consulted before they implement the tax increase.

He said city hall has been conducting consultation sessions with the business sector on the tax increase.

The city  government meanwhile will give recognition to the city’s top corporate and individual taxpayers during the taxpayer’s night on Aug. 29.
