CEBU CITY, Philippines — Omega Boxing Gym stalwart Christian “The Bomb” Araneta will finally get his much-deserved comeback fight on July 16, 2021.
This after, his opponent Richard Claveras who initially withdrew from their July 3, undercard bout of “Kumbati 10” fight card recently got a medical clearance making him fit to fight again.
Claveras was forced to back out in his fight against Araneta due to medical concerns.
However, according to “The Bomb’s” trainer Julius Erving Junco and the Omega Pro Sports International’s (OPSI) vice president Jerome Calatrava, they recently learned that Claveras was cleared medically and was fit to fight.
Thus, they will pit Araneta and Claveras anew, but this time, they will be featured in the undercard of Zip Sanman Promotions’ fight card on July 16, 2021 at the Tabunok sports complex in Talisay City, south Cebu.
The fight card will be headlined by former world title challenger Melvin “Gringo” Jerusalem versus Toto Landero for the Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) minimumweight title.
Araneta and Claveras’ showdown was one of the two-cancelled bouts in “Kumbati 10” that was held at the IPI compound in Mandaue City. The other bout that was cancelled was between Jhunrick Cardedo and Araneta’s stablemate Carlo Bacaro after the latter injured his hand during training.
The 26-year old Araneta of Borbon town, north Cebu is yearning to get back into action to redeem himself from his defeat against South African Sevinathi Nontshinga for the IBF world light flyweight title eliminator on April 25, 2021 in South Africa.
Araneta lost to Nontshinga via unanimous decision despite flooring the latter in the last round.
“The Bomb” has a record of 19 wins 15 knockouts with two defeats. Claveras, meanwhile, has a record of 19-7-2 (win-loss-draw) with 16 knockouts.
The 33-year old Claveras of Silay City, Negros Occidental last fought in February this year against Richard Rosales where he won by a sixth round knockout.
