Radaza vetoes proposed V-hire terminal ordinance

By: Norman V. Mendoza August 11,2014 - 09:19 AM

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza vetoed a city ordinance setting up a van-for-hire terminal at the old passenger jeepney terminal site in barangay Pajo, Lapu-Lapu City.

Radaza said there was nothing mentioned in the minutes of the City Traffic Management System (CTMS) board that discussed the need for a van-for-hire terminal. The mayor chairs the CTMS board. She said the CTMS board resolution was not submitted to her office and instead sent to the City Council without her endorsement.

Radaza said the ordinance prohibits vans-for-hire from using other terminals. She also reminded the City Council that the city government entered into a deal with Taipan Development Inc. for the building of a passenger terminal within their establishment.

Encroachment
She said the ordinance is an encroachment on her role as city mayor. Radaza also questioned the council’s move to invite City Engineer Alan Pedrigal to explain plans to build a mall in the open space of the Mactan Export Processing Zone-2. The open space was designated as a detention pond. A city ordinance requires establishments to build detention ponds to prevent flooding. Radaza clarified that SM will build its Hypermart near the detention pond area.
