MANDAUE CITY, Philippines — The head of the Mandaue Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is urging the public to get vaccinated and avoid getting infected with the virus or suffering through the severe symptoms of the virus.

Lawyer Julius Ceasar Entise, EOC deputy chief and head of Contact tracing team, made this appeal after observing that most of the symptomatic patients in hospitals were unvaccinated patients.

Entise said last year, before the presence of the COVID-19 Delta Variant about 80 percent were asymptomatic and only about 20 percent symptomatic.

But after the Delta Variant showed up, he said that the asymptomatic cases went down to 60 percent while the symptomatic cases went up to 40 percent.

According to the Department of Health in Central Visayas, that as of Thursday, August 5, Mandaue City’s active cases are 1,192.

Aside from this, Entise also said that unlike before there were now more patients in the city who were complaining of difficulty in breathing.

He said that most of the patients, who were in the hospital and were experiencing difficulty in breathing, were unvaccinated.

He reiterated his call to the public to get inoculated and take whatever vaccine brand would be available to avoid experiencing severe symptoms of the virus.

Earlier, Entise also said that they planned to purchase 100 oxygen tanks to supplement the 50 oxygen tanks at the Mandaue City Hospital for patients experiencing difficulty in breathing especially since hospitals were getting full.

Mayor Jonas Cortes on Thursday, August, 5, 2021, said the city was already negotiating with the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) that is located just across the city’s hospital to be a step down area to hopefully free private hospitals from some patients.

“Para ma free up ang hospital kay naa man guy uban dinha (hospital) nga maghuwat gyud nga mahuman ila’ng quarantine period, so ari nalang sila,” said Cortes.

(This is to free up hospitals because there are some hospitals where some were just waiting for their quarantine period to end so they can do that here.)

The mayor said the TIEZA would also be accomodating patients who would be experiencing severe symptoms of the virus. TIEZA can cater to 70 patients.
