Police told to release 14-year-old drug suspect

Prosecutor Alex Gabud ordered the police to release the 14-year-old suspected drug pusher to the custody of the DSWD.

He said the police “erroneously filed” the charges against the girl before the Cebu City Prosecutors’ Office.

“They should have not brought the child here (prosecutors’ office). Under the law, police should immediately release minor offenders aged 15 and below to the custody of the local DSWD (Department of Social Welfare and Development) office not later than eight hours after the arrest,” the prosecutor said.

Gabud said it’s now up to the DSWD to determine what program the child has to undergo for rehabilitation.
