A woman who allegedly swindled about 2,500 people by promising them jobs in Australia in exchange for P15,000 as placement fee was arrested at 2 p.m. yesterday in her house in barangay Vito, Minglanilla, Cebu.

RTC Judge Generosa Labra issued the arrest warrant for illegal recruitment against Kirby Racaza-Silva, 43.

Members of the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG-7) who served the warrant found Silva hiding in a cabinet in her office.

Police also arrested her husband, Rogelio, for alleged possession of a .45 cal. pistol. Rogelio also surrendered his .38 cal. firearm which he kept in his car.

Silva allegedly operates a call center called Intertech 888.

The police said the firm is actually operating as a recruitment agency that looks for people willing to work in Australia.

Clients of the nationwide operation paid P15,000 as placement fee but were not able to leave the country to work in Australia.

Silva allegedly earned P37.5 million from her i business.

In September 2013, she was arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation for 19 counts of estafa. She was released after posting bail of P450,000.

Silva denied she was an illegal recruiter and she was surprised that she was arrested yesterday.
