Tropical depression “Luis” will enter the Philippines today and is expected to make landfall in northern Luzon.

While the Visayas is not in its path, expect heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon which may be intensified by the weather disturbance.

“If this turns into a tropical storm, expect rains and winds to be stronger,” said Nedz Saletrero, weather speciaist of Pagasa-Mactan.

The southwest monsoon or “habagat” is experienced from May to October.

Septemer is expected to experience two to three typhoons, she said.

Tomorrow until Monday, the forecast is heavy rains and the risk of flashfloods and landslides in areas prone to these dangers.

The forecast was confirmed by the US Navy’s Joint Typhoon Warning Center which said the tropical depresssion brewing in the Pacific Ocean could intensify into a storm and hit the country early next week.

The JTWC said the potential storm would hit northern Luzon by Sunday.
