A total of 22 football squads from various companies will compete in the one-day football festival dubbed as “Goal for Jacob” of the Leylam Football Club at the Cebu International School (CIS) in Pit-os, Cebu City.

It was initially reported that the fund-raising, inter-company event will be held at the Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) but organizers led by Leylam FC founder Ugur Tasci received an offer from CIS for free use of its football facility.

The event hopes to raise funds to fund the operation of Baby Jacob, a 10-month old baby who is suffering from a birth defect called club foot. Club foot is a congenital deformity involving one foot or both. It can be treated through major surgery.

Baby Jacob’s surgery slated on the last week of October needs around P200,000, an amount his parents, who are ordinary employees of Tasci’s Leylam Shawarma simply cannot afford.

The following teams answered the call for a noble cause: Team NCR, San Miguel Brewery, Leylam FC, Primary Structures, Funai Electric Cebu Inc., Stream FC, Boys Konek, Accenture, Lear FC, Cebu Mitsumi Inc., NKC, PAREF-Springdale, Thirsty, CIS, Lexmark and Makoto Metal Technology.

The 16 mentioned teams will compete in the men’s inter-company division with a seven-aside format.

Meanwhile, the six teams in the women’s division include NCR, Leylam FC, Accenture, Cebu Mitsumi Inc., NKC and Lexmark.

The top three teams will receive medals, trophies and P1,000 worth of gift certificates from Cubanas Pizza Party Resto bar. Special awards will also be given to the outstanding players. Organizers will also be raffling off one cellphone.
