A Police officer was relieved from the Asturias police precinct and transferred to another unit after his M16 rifle was stolen while he was asleep inside a patrol car at 3 a.m. last Thursday.
PO3 Glendyl Cabaniero was with the Alert Team that was assigned to guard a disco in the mountain barangay of Manga in Alcantara town. The event was attended by Alcantara Mayor Beatriz Caburnay.
SPO3 Zaldy Aurello, Alert team leader, said he didn’t notice Cabaniero leave his post at the nearby barangay hall and sleep inside a patrol car.
Cabaniero woke up at 4 a.m. and noticed that his rifle was already missing.
He was transferred to the Provincial Public Safety Company of the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) by Senior Supt. Noel Gillamac, Cebu provincial police chief, pending the result of an investigation.
