CEBU CITY, Philippines — Police in Cebu City will start its investigation to find out who were behind the stabbing of a stray dog named ‘Bonbon.’
Police Lieutenant Colonel Wilbert Parilla, deputy director for administration of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), said that they already directed the station commander of the Mabolo Police Station, Police Major Eraño Regidor, to look into the case.
Parilla also asked for the help of the public should they have knowledge or have witnessed this act of animal cruelty to coordinate with the police for the arrest of the culprits.
“Among panawagan labi na sa taga Bonbon nga dunay nahibaloan sa kung kinsa kadtong tawo nga nagbuhat sa pgdunggab atong iro. Duna tay balaod nga nagregulate sa tanang mga hayop, ang Animal Wefare Act. Usa kini ka criminal nga kaso,” Parilla said.
(Our call to the public especially to those from Bonbon, who know who stabbed the dog. We have a law that regulates all animals, the Animal Welfare Act. This is a criminal case.)
It can be recalled that the Cebu City Council, through Councilor Rey Gealon, appealed to the police to track down the persons who had hurt the dog.
Bonbon, the dog, went viral on social media after he was spotted roaming the streets of Barangay Bonbon last week with a knife stuck to his head.
Although the dog survived the stabbing with the help of the Cebuano community, Gealon said he would want the police to identify the persons behind this case of animal cruelty so they could be charged.
The knife stuck in Bonbon’s head was successfully removed from the dog’s head by veterinarians last Monday, Nov. 7, 2022.
