Barefoot running for Señor Sto. Niño
CEBU CITY, Philippines— Running a 42 kilometer race or a full marathon is not an easy feat.
And running in a marathon barefoot is a totally different kind of victory.
Meet Adelisa Montesclaros, 52, from Medellin town in northern Cebu, who just did all these in fulfilment of her “panaad” (vow) to the Señor Sto. Niño.
Montesclaros, an ultramarathoner, said she started her “panaad’ in 2019.
And every time that she would do her run for the Sto. Niño, Montesclaros said that she would also pray for her protection, good health for her and her family and more blessings.
“Mangaliya ko nga kanunay luwas ug way tatsa ang akong pagdagan. Buligan pa ko ug maayong panglawas uban sa akong pamilya, mga grasya ug daghan pang musuporta nako sa umaabot nga dagan. Kini akong dagan agi kong pasalamat ug Halad sa balaang bata , Senior Sto Niño,” she said.
Montesclaros said it was in 2016 when she started to join marathons with members of her team called “Any Day Runners.”
In 2019, she started with her “panaad” to run barefoot in a Sinulog marathon. She joined the “Hunat Sugbo” then and ran a 21 kilometer distance.
She made her first barefoot run as a thanksgiving to the Holy Child Jesus for all the blessings that she received.
This year, she joined runners of the Cebu City Marathon last January 8 as she ran barefoot on the iconic Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway. And while she run, Montesclaros also wore a piece of cloth that was designed to look like butterfly wings since runners were also encouraged to wear costumes.
“Akong paborito naka dagan ko nga gatiniil sa bag-o nga taytayan , CCLEX Bridge with my race director of hardcore ultra events Edwin Colina ug sa mga ka uban nako nga barefoot runners of Cebu, Pyur Panit Team,” she added.
Para kang Senyor, kayahon gyud tanan!
VIVA PIT SENYOR!
