Another sinkhole was discovered last Saturday afternoon in a river in the mountain barangay of Talayong, Badian, southern Cebu.

This is the fourth new sinkhole found in the south and the third in Badian after typhoon Seniang. The other one was discovered in Alcantara.

The sinkhole in Talayong is 10 feet wide. Authorities have yet to determine its depth.

Found in the middle of the river, the sinkhole takes in al the water from upstream that flows through it.

SPO1 Emmanuel Caballero of the Badian Police Station told Cebu Daily News that a concerned citizen called them up about the sinkhole.

“Iyahang higupon ang tubig unya dili na makalahos panaog sa ubos (The water no longer flows downstream),” said Caballero.

Caballero said this was not the first sinkhole in the barangay. He visited the area, which is some  three kilometers from the national highway, and found this to be far from houses.

Badian Mayor Robburt Librando and the Talayong barangay captain could not be reached yesterday.

Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-7 spokesperson Eddie Llamedo earlier said that a group will visit Badian and Alegria today to check on the sinkholes.

Sinkholes are formed usually after heavy rains or earthquake.

Last Saturday, a sinkhole was discovered in barangay Manduyong in Badian, measuring at least 20 meters in diameter and 15 meters deep. This one was found in a forested area away from houses.

Last November 2014, a sinkhole was also discovered in barangay Banhigan also in Badian after typhoon Queenie.
