Balut vendor finds love, to marry ex-girlfriend’s cousin

By: Melissa Q. Cabahug February 15,2015 - 04:46 PM

THEIR livelihood consists of selling boiled duck embryo known as “balut” in Asahi road, barangay Casuntingan in Mandaue City.

One year into their relationship, live-in partners “JR” and “Kim” will soon get married after Kim’s parents gave them their blessing last week.

The 25-year-old JR was thankful to God that he found someone to marry after being cheated on by his past girlfriends.
But a former girlfriend, “Cherry,” made amends by giving him her cousin Kim’s phone number.

JR and Kim started texting in 2013. JR said he is thankful to “Cherry” for helping him with 19-year-old Kim whom he first met in a mall in Mandaue City in March last year.

He said he could still remember the siopao (Chinese meat bun) and ice candy that he bought because he can’t afford to buy other snacks.

Relationship

JR said he would make sure he would spend time with Kim despite the 80.2-kilometer distance from Mandaue City to Tabogon town, northern Cebu.

Last week, JR brought his parents with him as he asked for Kim’s hands from her parents.

Para lang gyud sa among relasyon, andam gyud nako atubangon tanan (For our relationship I am ready to face anything),” he said.

Wedding

JR heaved a sigh of relief after Kim’s parents agreed to the marriage.

Even if they lived together for the past year, JR still believes in sealing their relationship with marriage.

“Importante gyud kaayo na kay lain man sad kaayo og mamabdos nga wala pa makasal. Mas nindot gyud na nga maminyo sa gyud ta (It’s important because it won’t look right if she gets pregnant without being married. It’s better for us to get married),” he told CDN

JR said he’s saving up money for their wedding. The couple earns P600 during weekends and P100 on lean days.
To those still searching for their special someone, JR said they should never give up.

“Dili magpakawala sa paglaom kay kita tanan, naa gyud tay partner diri sa kalibutan (Let’s not lose hope because all of us have partners in this world),” he told Cebu Daily News.
