SHAABAA: Batch 2015 routs 2020 as Batch 2001 dumps defending champ 2000

CEBU CITY, Philippines — Batch 2015 and ARQ Builders-Batch 2001 earned contrasting victories in the ongoing Sacred Heart Ateneo Alumni Basketball Athletic Association (SHAABAA) Season 26 on Sunday, August 27, 2023, at the Magis Eagles Arena in Mandaue City.

This as Batch 2015 had a lopsided win against Batch 2020, 92-68, in Division C, while Batch 2001 narrowly escaped with a 68-65 win against Division A defending champions, Core Pacific Money Exchange-Batch 2000.

Anton Chua leads Batch 2015

Anton Chua paced Batch 2015 with 18 points, while Anton Araw-Araw and Joseph Mayol each scored 16 points, and Irvin Dumol added 12 in their huge victory. 

Batch 2020’s Mitch Ivan Almodal was two rebounds shy from grabbing a double-double game after tallying 29 points and 8 rebounds. Still, it wasn’t enough to give Batch 2020 their victory. 

In Division A, Batch 2001 endured four lead changes and four deadlocks to beat the defending champions behind Josef Rey Reoma’s 12 markers. 

Wendell Ong aided Reoma with 10 points in their win.

Ocampo’s double-double was in vain

Gleen Albert Ocampo unloaded a double-double game of 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Dave Michael Ting had 24 points and Johannes Chua added 10 in Batch 2000’s losing efforts. 

In the other Division C game, Harley Davidson-Batch 2014 beats Batch 2022, 85-73, behind Lucky Ecarma and Gio Laguyo’s double-double games. 

Ecarma erupted for 19 points with 12 boards, four assists, and one block, while Laguyo had 14 markers with 10 assists. 

Batch 2022’s Rey Tristan Fuentes and Joseph Alexander Dytian spoiled their 30 and 22-point performances.

Batch 2010 beats 2009

In the other Division B games, Efficascent Boost-BRC Batch 2010 walked away with a 77-68 win against Flashket Grocery Delivery App-Batch 2009, behind Gabe Branzuela’s 28-point performance. 

Branzuela paired it with seven boards, four assists, and three steals, while Kylle Edwin Valmoria scored 25 points for the losing squad. 

On the other hand, Daren Ong had his own double-double game of 16 points and 12 rebounds to lead Crossfit-Subtero-Batch 2006 in beating Batch 2005, 61-49.

Cabahug’s 19 points not enough

Elddie Cabahug tallied 19 points, but it wasn’t enough to give Insular Square-Batch 2005 its victory. 

Also, Cebu Landmasters-Batch 2003’s Daryle Tan stole the spotlight on Sunday’s games after recording his double-double game of 17 points and 13 rebounds as Batch 2003 defeated Puresteel Manufacturing Corporation-Batch 2011, 67-59. 

Tan also had three assists, two steals, and one block for Batch 2003. 

Bradley Bacaltos had 16 points for Batch 2011. Teammates Franz Pacheco and Bernard Chioson scored 15 and 12 points in their losing efforts, respectively.

Batch 2002 beats 1998

In Division A’s other games, SENTRAL Bar & Lounge-Batch 2002 won over Batch 1998, 53-44, from Ryan Zear Lauro’s 19 markers. 

Lord Espedido scored 14 for Kima Glass Supply Co. Inc.-Batch 1998’s loss. 

Lastly, Bayfront Hotel-Batch 1990/1997 bested Yangtze Cooling Ice Systems-Batch 1992, 61-53. Buck Richnold Sia stuffed the stats sheet with 21 points, eight rebounds, and one steal.

Joel Co’s double-double game of 28 points and 11 rebounds wasn’t enough for Batch 1992 to beat their opponents.
