CEBU CITY, Philippines — PMI Bohol Boxing Stable’s Jake “El Bambino” Amparo pulled himself closer for a world title shot after the International Boxing Federation (IBF) ordered his camp and that of former world champion Pedro “Kid Heneral” Taduran a world title eliminator bout.

The announcement was first published on Boxing Scene’s website which said that Amparo, who ranks No. 3 in the minimumweight division of the IBF, and Taduran, the No.2 ranked contender, should to participate in a world title eliminator bout.

The outcome of the bout will determine the mandatory challenger or the No. 1 spot in the IBF’s minimumweight rankings. The winner will also be considered the rightful challenger for reigning IBF world minimumweight champion Daniel Valladares of Mexico.

However, IBF might crown a new world champion as Valladares stakes his world title against Japanese Ginjiro Shigeoka on October 7, 2023 at the Ota City General Gymnasium in Japan.

Amparo’s promoter, the PMI Bohol Boxing Stable, and Taduran’s promoter from Elorde Boxing Gym are given until September 26, 2023 to conclude their negotiations.

If the fight pushes through, Amparo will be PMI’s second boxer to fight for a world title eliminator.

It can be recalled that PMI hosted a separate IBF world title eliminator pitting its banner boxer Regie Suganob against Omega Boxing Gym’s Mark Vicelles for the IBF world light flyweight title last February in Calape, Bohol.

Suganob won the bout via an eighth round stoppage and became PMI’s first boxer to fight for a world title last July.  However, he fell short against defending champion Sivenathi Nontshinga in their bout held in South Africa last July.

Meanwhile, Amparo has introduced himself in the mainstream boxing after recently winning a 12-round unanimous decision victory against Japanese Goki Kobayashi in Kobe, Japan last August.

Amparo earned the World Boxing Organization (WBO) Asia Pacific minimumweight title.

He now has a record of 14 wins with three knockouts, four losses, and one draw.

For his part, Taduran, is no longer new in fighting world championships. He was the former title holder of Valladares’ world title in 2019 to 2020.

He lost the IBF world minimumweight strap to fellow Filipino Rene Mark Cuarto in 2021 by unanimous decision.

Before that Valladares and Taduran met in the ring in the latter’s first title defense a year earlier which ended in a draw.

Taduran has a record of 15-4-1 (win-loss-draw) with 12 knockouts./ dcb
