Bongbong Marcos vows to prioritize welfare of country’s educators
MANILA, Philippines — On World Teachers’ Day, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. said that the government will prioritize the welfare of the country’s educators as he greeted teachers in a Facebook post on Thursday, Oct. 5.
“Happy World Teachers’ Day to our educators, to whom our nation owes an immeasurable debt,” Marcos said.
The President said that he acknowledged the teachers’ efforts and vowed to support them.
“We recognize your sacrifices for our youth and assure you that we will prioritize your welfare and that of your families,” Marcos said.
World Teachers’ Day was established by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) and International Labour Organization (ILO), according to Unesco’s website.
Unesco said that October 5 commemorates the establishment of the Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, “which sets benchmarks regarding the rights and responsibilities of teachers, and standards for their initial preparation and further education, recruitment, employment, and teaching and learning conditions.”
