Ethan Jay Daguplo, fondly called “Tan-tan”, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) last May 24, 2023. A month before his diagnosis, Ethan experienced an on-and-off fever and joint pains, and his parents noticed swollen lymph nodes on his neck and bruises on some parts of his body. Extremely worried by his condition, his parents brought him to a hospital in Bohol for consultation but, was advised for admission because Tan-tan was so pale and weak. Diagnostic procedures were requested and his complete blood count result showed an unusually high number of white blood cells and an abnormally low number of platelets, counts that were not in the normal range. Because of the alarming results, the child’s attending physician advised the family to go to Cebu for a thorough medical evaluation and pursue specialized medical care. Terrified of a more serious underlying problem the family proceeded to Cebu. On May 24, 2023, a bone marrow aspiration was performed and the results revealed that Tan-tan has Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, a type of cancer of the blood that affects the white blood cells, which helps our body fight infection. This is a serious medical condition that gets worse quickly, but with early diagnosis and prompt treatment, the chance for a cure is so high in children.

“Tan-tan” is a happy child who loves to talk and joke. His hobbies include playing toy cars. His father just quit school to take care of him and fully depends on the financial support of his family to sustain Tan-tan’s ongoing treatment. The cost of care of cancer is so high and the family’s very limited resources can’t keep up with the cost. To sustain treatment and carefully comply with the treatment protocol his family is earnestly asking for financial assistance from kindhearted individuals to help give Ethan a chance to play more toy cars.
