CEBU CITY, Philippines — More than 1,200 passengers are left stranded in various ports in Central Visayas following the cancellation of sea trips in the region due to Tropical Storm Kabayan.

Based on the latest count from the Philippine Coast Guard in the region (PCG-7), they recorded 1,295 stranded passengers as of Monday morning, December 18.

A total of 234 sea voyages have also been suspended because of the inclement weather. Of this number, 200 are rolling cargoes while the remaining are sea vessels, including passenger ones.

Since the state weather bureau hoisted Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) in most parts of Visayas and Mindanao last Sunday, December 17, the PCG-7 has prohibited all types of sea vessels from sailing as a safety precaution.

All provinces in Central Visayas – Cebu, Negros Oriental, Siquijor, Bohol – have been placed under TCWS No. 1 due to Kabayan’s presence. /clorenciana
