VISITORS to Santander in southern Cebu can now look up information about the town’s tourist destinations, heritage sites, and cultural landmarks in their mobile phones.
The “Santander Guide,” a free mobile application, was launched yesterday along with QR markers that can be scanned and read by smartphone users.
“Santander is the gateway to the neighboring islands of Negros, Siquijor and Bohol, and all you need to know to get rides to these places is found in the Santander Guide,” said Mayor Marilyn Wenceslao.
The project was realized through a partnership of the municipal government with InnoPub Media and Smart Communications.

The Santander Guide is part of the effort of the Cebu provincial government to include all towns in the digital tourism project. Similar QR code markers and mobile apps were launche din Argao town last year by Gov. Hilario Davide III.
The digital guide contains information about the town’s history and highlights places to visit and a list of resorts and their contact numbers.
After downloading the application on an android phone, one can continue to use this offline. Users will also get information about local events, news and activities.
Santander’s digital markers are in five locations: the Church of St. Gabriel the Archangel, the southernmost tip point, the barangay Poblacion watchtower, the Sanayon site and the belfry of the original church in Santander.
