MCWD to test schools’ water

By: Michelle Joy L. Padayhag May 22,2015 - 11:38 AM

The Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD)  started sampling  water quality  in public schools in Cebu City to ensure students have clean drinking water when school opens next month.

This aims  to help schools take corrective  measures if  harmful bacteria is detected in the faucets,   said Charmaine Rodriguez-Kara, MCWD public affairs manager.

The  water sampling activity in schools  is MCWD’s contribution to Brigada Eskwela 2015.

Banilad Elementary School was the first school to be tested.

MCWD’s senior chemist Michelle Cortes and senior laboratory technician Bienvenido Perialde checked and took water samples at the water faucets in the hand washing area and the feeding area of the school.

They also placed disinfectant in the mouth of the faucets.

Results of the water samples will be released after five working days.

Banilad school principal Lily Ann S. Go said the school buys  mineral water  for drinking.

But she said she appreciated the  water sampling because they still use tap water during the school’s feeding programs.
