A collection of American vintage bicyles is exhibited in Museo Sugbo by the Cebu Vintage Bicycle Club.

Top of the line American vintage bicyles are on display at the Museo Sugbo in M.J. Cuenco Avenue in Cebu City.
The exhibit organized by the Cebu Vintage Bicycle Club (CVBC) aims to present the history behind the club’s founding as well as their unique collection.
The exhibit opened on May 29 in time for the Gabii sa Kabilin 2015 and will run June 12.
The collection of Bernardino Aves is among those featured in the exhibit.
“I have always dreamed of launching a bicycle exhibit here at Museo Sugbo. This project’s achievement in showcasing these tangible cultural material to the public is a milestone for the members of the club and the Cebu Provincial Museum,” said Ferdinand Azcarraga, event organizer.
He thanked the efforts of Ma. Cecilia Cabanes and Ray Estrada, the support of the CVBC members specially that of Julius Noel and Ford Guardo, as well as Blink’s visual designs .
The group is gaiining popularity in the Philippine bicycle community and other vintage bicycle collectors and groups worldwide.
It aims to help in the restoration of American vintage bicycles found all over the country as well as inform the public about balloon tire bicycles that are being used by a growing number of local members.
The group was formerly known as the Labangon Vintage Bicycle Club.
Aves, who inspired the establishment of the group, is known among bikers for his vast collection of Schwinn Classics Bikes. The brand founded in 1895 was the dominant manufacturer of American bicycles in the 20th century.
In 2010, the group showed American vintage bicycles for the first time in the streets of Cebu City during the 2nd Earth Hour Night Ride.
The event attracted more new members.
Today, the CVBC has expanded its advocacy from showcasing and restoring vintage bikes to taking part in social awareness campaigns with bikers’ organization, Tindak Sugbo Coalition, in the promotion of biking as a form of exercise and part of a healthier lifestyle.
CVBC is also active in many presentations, events and shows that are featured in local and regional publications.
The bicycle collections help bridge historical and cultural references in reaching other people’s lives.
Other members of the CVBC who participated during the event’s launching were Christian Bidos, Edna Lee, Gabriel del Rosario, Ferdinand Sugatan Sr., Neil Dayondon, and Renante Balo.
