Seeing Cebu’s huge potential for medical tourism, the Alegrado family marked their entrance into the industry with the groundbreaking of their 100-bed Allegiant Regional Care (ARC) hospitals in barangay Agus, Lapu-Lapu City, Monday.

The Alegrado family is behind the Blue Water Resorts brand. The first phase of the ARC Hospitals is set to be completed by 2017.

It features two state-of-the-art operating rooms and is divided into five main sections including cardiovascular, day surgery, endoscopy, major surgery and obstetrics-gynecology surgery.

The company will invest P350 million for the first phase of construction of the 100-bed four level hospital.

ARC Hospitals medical director Dr. Alex Alegrado said the first phase covers 1.4 hectare of the 3.4 hectares property which will be fully developed in three phases within a 10-year period.

The second phase will be the specialty center for the Cancer Center and it will start on the third to fourth year after the first phase is completed. A medical school will also be added for the third phase of the project./ Reporter Aileen Garcia-Yap
