PB backs mandatory drug testing for teachers

The Cebu Provincial Board (PB) asked the regional Department of Education (DepEd) office in Central Visayas to issue a memorandum requiring public school teachers to undergo random drug testing.

PB Member Arleigh Sitoy authored the resolution and submitted another resolution asking private schools and universities to conduct their own random drug testing operations to all their teachers and employees.

The two resolutions which were approved during yesterday’s regular PB session stemmed from the arrest of a public elementary school teacher of Badian town for alleged drug use last month.

The Cebu Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Commission (CPADAC) requested DepEd-7 and its school division in Cebu to issue a memorandum requiring school teachers to submit themselves to random drug testing.

CPADAC Executive Director Joey Herrera sent a draft memorandum to both offices detailing the guidelines on drug testing for public school teachers.
