Seven out of 132 personnel from Cebu City Hall’s Department of Public Services (DPS) tested positive for illegal drug use  during a  random testing yesterday.

The results still have to undergo confirmatory testing.

“ Within this week we will know the results,” said Dr. Alice Utlang, chief of the Cebu City Office for Substance Abuse.

Random drug tests in City Hall departments and offices started in January.

As of June 9,   17 employees from over 20 departments and offices in City Hall tested positive for illegal drugs use.

One is a regular employee.

The rest are casuals or Job Order hires.

If a regular employee is confirmed to be using drugs, he or she has to  undergo the city’s rehabilitation program.

Casuals  will be recommended for dismissal.

“We can’t really say it’s already alarming. But it’s not quite a good picture,” Utlang said of the results so far.
