INTERNATIONAL Master Ronald Dableo, Woman Fide Master Cherry Ann Mejia and Darry Bernardo shared the limelight in the 2013 National Blitz Chess Championship last Saturday at the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) National Athletes’ Dining Hall at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.

Dableo, head coach of reigning UAAP senior men’s champion University of Sto. Tomas, halved a point with Fide Master Haridas Pascua in the ninth and final round to capture the title in the Open division of the event organized by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) in coordination with the PSC and Philippine Olympic Committee (POC).

Dableo, Pascua and National Master Alcon John Datu finished in a three-way tie for first place with 7.5 points, but the former took the title with a higher tie-break score.

Mejia, meanwhile, topped the women’s category with 8.5 points while Bernardo dominated the kiddies 14 and under with 7.0 points.
